EDM 2052

An Early Day Motion is a formal motion for a topic to be debated in the House of Commons and brings attention to the cause.

The United Kingdom could be the first country to fully integrate Indian Traditional Sciences into the NHS. What is needed now is support for an Early Day Motion 2052 from your local member of parliament. A draft letter is pasted below.

Please find here the email address of your local Member of Parliament at the following link: http://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/

Dear (Name of your MP),

I have found AYUSH Systems very helpful in helping me reduce symptoms as well as reducing the use of medications. Please will you sign to support the motion outlined below, and encourage your other colleagues to do so, too?

AYUSH Systems are an empowering and multi-dimensional approach to encouraging well-being, which appreciates the link between physical and psychological health and lifestyle. A corpus of research studies reveal that these methods of health and care offers preventative and curative benefits for a variety of mental and physical conditions and is correlated with improved lifestyle choices. If AYUSH Systems were readily available on the NHS it would enhance well-being for so many of us – providing skills and tools that can be used to improve and or maintain health.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Indian Traditional Sciences is concentrating its efforts towards the inclusion of AYUSH Systems into the NHS and Virendra Sharma MP has tabled this Early Day Motion. Text of the Early Day Motion 2052:

Tabled 05 February 2019

2017-19 Session

That this House commends efforts being made by the UK Ayurveda fraternity to create a self-regulatory framework for all AYUSH systems including Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy as well as Jyotish, Vastu and Sangeetam, the aim of which is to protect the public through establishing safety standards whilst also ensuring freedom of choice in all aspects of healthcare; regrets that the European Directive on Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products leaves outside its scope several categories of products including: any safe product brought to market over the last 30 years, any safe mixture of two or more herbal ingredients which does not have a 30 year tradition of use in that particular combination, any safe product which is a combination of herbs with nutrients such as vitamins and minerals and any safe new product which has been on the market outside Europe for many years but not in Europe, which has led to the loss of many medicines and hindered all new medicinal products development in this sector; and urges the Government to support traditional systems of medicine by bringing forward proposals for the national recognition and regulation of these systems, along the lines of modern medicine, to secure safe, natural, and time-tested integrated healthcare for our nation.

Kindest regards
